TASSEL: The male component of the reproductive system of a Zea mays (corn) plant. The tassel bears many male flowers (florets) in spikelets (enlarged). The whole tassel is also known as the androecium. As the male flowers in the spikelets only possess stamens the spikelets are termed staminate.
