Glossary and Synonyms facility

The Maize Database is an information-rich facility which serves the world. It is used by research scientists working on maize and other plant species, undergraduate and graduate students, K12 teachers and their students and of course the general public.

While we are endeavoring to record information using internationally recognized terminology, sometimes more colloquial terms are used by researchers and others for information stored in MaizeDB under internationally recognized terms . To enable researchers who use colloquial terms and other interested users to be successful in obtaining information from MaizeDB it is important that non-standard terms also be recognized via the search routines. While the Glossary and Synonym facility will serve the important Search facilities of the database we also want the glossary and synonym facility to be browsable - as an educational facility - much like a dictionary.
